Emer began performing her poetry in Dublin pubs in 2017. By 2018, she became a finalist in the ‘Write Here, Write Now’ competition, with her poem published in Hotpress Magazine and an award presented to her by the President of Ireland.

She has a BA in English and History from University College Dublin, where she was active in the theatre, radio, and literary scenes. She served as vice chair of UCD radio, contributed to the University Observer Newspaper, and was an active member of UCD Dramsoc.

In 2019, she completed an MSc in Psychology at the University of Glasgow, which continues to influence her writing and in 2020, she started writing short fiction.

Her short story ‘Skin’ was published in ‘Thiwurd’ magazine in 2021, followed by ‘Ben Lomond’ in ‘The Liminal Review’ in 2022. That year, she also received ‘The Agility Award’ from the Arts Council of Ireland, supporting emerging writers.

In 2023, Emer attended a writer’s retreat at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre and was one of just 12 writers shortlisted for the U.K ‘Creative Future’ short story prize out of 1300 entrants. In 2024, she was selected as 1 of 39 writers, from 416 applicants, who will receive literary mentoring over the next eight months from an acclaimed Irish writer of their choice.
